Why is Autora Borealis ( and Aurora Australis ) interesting for Amateur Radio people ?
We can make Radio contacts via Aurora. Radio magnetics waves on some frequencies (VHF @ UHF ) are refracting/reflecting from area where Aurora ocured.
If we aimed our antennas into this field of ioniside paricle, it is posible to make radio contacts with other AMATEUR Radio station.

Amateur Radio antennas are made to goes Up/Down and rotate around to be in position to find best signal.
In my geografical position (45° North ) it is very rare to make Auroral contacts, but not inposible…
When I was very young Amateur Radio OPERATOR (it was in last century ) my friend from Srbia: Lazo YU1NDL let me hear throught Radio : magnetic tape audio of his QSO via Aurora… ( In that time was not internet )
Also very comon is Au (Auroral ) communication via Amateur Radio Satellite OSCAR: Orbiting Satellite Carring Amateur Radio.
But it may also make destruction in comercial radio comunication…
